Corporate FAQ

Top Ten Questions About Rezonent

1. Who is Rezonent? What makes the company special?

Rezonent Corporation is a semiconductor technology startup based in Silicon Valley,  California. The company has developed revolutionary semiconductor technology to  recapture energy within a processor and enable the most advanced computer  processors to run up to 30% lower power (or conversely run higher speed in the same  power budget). The company has incorporated the technology into a product that  allows any large-scale, advanced semiconductor processor company to quickly  incorporate the power-recapture technology into existing designs, using industry  standard tools and methodologies.

2. What is Rezonent’s product?

Rezonent’s product consists of patented, licensable semiconductor design technology integrated into our design automation compiler software to facilitate the incorporation of the  technology into existing or future semiconductor designs, using existing industry design  tools.

3. What stage is the company at?

After receiving seed funding starting in 2018, the company has delivered a number of key  milestones:

i. The team completed first-stage research & development for its unique wide frequency multi-function resonance technology.

ii. Rezonent applied for and was granted key patents for its unique, groundbreaking technology.

iii. The company recently developed and built a proof-of-concept 28nm test  processor from TSMC consisting of two versions of the same crypto processor - one before Rezonent, the second with Rezonent technology. This important  proof of concept processor, validates and demonstrates Rezonent’s technology  and performance claims. The test processor demonstrates up to 40% power  savings on an existing design, across a wide range of clock frequencies.

4. What are the next steps for the company?

With the first stage R&D done and the test chip validating the company’s technology  completed, the next key milestone is to engage and close an alpha customer. Rezonent  has begun discussions with a few major semiconductor companies towards this goal. In  order to do this, the company is focusing work on the following priorities:

i. Secure commitment from a major semiconductor player for Rezonent to incorporate their technology on an existing customer FINFET processor and through simulation, demonstrate the “before & after” benefits. This has the benefit to both parties of not requiring a physical, time-consuming physical tape-out. Preliminary discussions with major players are already at this level.

5. What problem is Rezonent solving?

a. Society is in the midst of the fourth industrial revolution. Computing needs are soaring,  driven by massive developments in artificial intelligence, robotics and visualization  technologies. Data centers are exploding with new consumer applications and cloud  services, while edge computing in everything from smartphones to robots are similarly  hungrily seeking more and more processing power.

b. One of the primary limiters of this much-needed processing performance is power - across every computing platform from data centers to handheld devices and robots. In  data centers alone, the largest cost is the electricity needed to operate & cool the  equipment.

c. Rezonent’s technology could have an enormous beneficial impact on this problem. By  infusing an existing data center design with Rezonent technology and delivering an  average of just 20% power savings, a data center could either reduce its size and cost by  20% or using the existing data center, deliver up to 20% more performance. The cost  implications for this example alone could be billions of dollars of equipment and  operating cost savings per year.

6. Why partner with Rezonent? Semiconductor companies have thousands of engineers working on the power problem. Why would they need Rezonent?

a. Power is already a huge industry because everyone already understands its enormous  importance to processing performance and cost. Many companies already incorporate  multiple power-saving methodologies starting with basics such as clock gating,  frequency/voltage scaling, and more. Energy regeneration with resonance technology has been used previously in the industry to reduce power in semiconductors. Rezonent has made  significant strides in increasing the efficacy of the technology across all key power groups in a chip (clock, data, memory) to drive far greater savings.

b. Rezonent’s patented industry-leading technology is best-of-class in multiple areas.  However, it is unique in two fundamental ways:

i. First, it incorporates resonant energy recapture and power savings across not just the Clock (10%+ of overall power), but also Memory (30+%), and Data (20+%)  portions of the processor. Utilizing Rezonent’s wide-frequency multi-function technology uniquely can increase the overall addressable power savings from 10% to over 60%, a hugely significant opportunity for any semiconductor company.

ii. Secondly, these power savings are possible across a wide range of frequencies.  Many processors operate at a fixed frequency as their workload does not vary much, but a significant and increasing number of processors now operate at multiple different frequencies, throttling up and down depending on the  processing workload and application, to save power. Rezonent is the only resonance technology that operates across multiple frequencies.

7. Tell me about the technical and business leadership of Rezonent and the team, what are their qualifications & experience?

a. The founder and CEO of Rezonent is Dr. Ignatius Bezzam, a veteran IC designer and  worldwide expert in semiconductor resonance power-saving technology. Dr. Bezzam has  over 35 years of experience in the global VLSI industry and led over 30 successful tape  outs with global teams across TSMC, GlobalFoundries, National Semiconductor,  Raytheon, and Maxim.

b. He leads a deep technology team of 25 best-in-class professionals, operating out of two  design centers, one based in Milpitas California and the other in Bangalore India. These  two offices enable the Company’s design team to work around the clock. The India based design center drastically lowers engineering costs integral to Rezonent’s product  development. The team collectively brings to the table extensive high-speed digital,  RF/mixed signal, and power expertise, with over 60 successful first silicon tape-outs and  over 30 patents delivered.

c. Rezonent’s advisory board consists of multiple semiconductor industry veterans with  extensive startup and operational experience including existing and former key  executives from Synopsys, NVIDIA, Intel, and STMicroelectronics.

8. How is Rezonent funded, what is the funding strategy?

a. The company was originally funded by a variety of initial investors supplying $1.5M. The purpose of this initial funding was to develop and deploy the 28nm test processor  through TSMC validating Rezonent’s technology and secure our first alpha customer. (Note: It is unheard of to have a  successful 28nm chip fabricated and tested for just $1.5M/. Rezonent’s Indian  engineering resources, academic partnerships and industry relationships allowed the completion of the  development program in a very short period of time and at an extremely low total cost.  These practices would be utilized for next stage funding execution.)

b. Rezonent’s next step in 2023 is to seek Series-A funding to be used  to engage first customers and achieve the following:

i. Characterize Rezonent IP Libraries for required FinFet process technology nodes to address leading customer requirements starting with memories (SRAM)

ii. Develop software/memory compilers with Rezonent IP integrated to enable automated insertion of Rezonent power reducing technology with little impact to customer’s design time

iii. Put in place business development resources to secure NDAs, contracts, POs,  and manage initial customers.

9. What is Rezonent’s IP and Patent Portfolio?
